Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2014

It’s that time of year again! The time where we spend days upon days trying to select 10 songs to vote for in Triple J’s Hottest 100. This year, Triple J has been the only radio station I have listened too. I was sick and tired of the crap on commercial radio. It is the same old, boring “entertainment”. The music is okay, the shows, not so much. I tried to keep my short list down to 35 again, but that was proving difficult.

To be perfectly honest, Ed Sheeran would have been in my Top 10. However, his tracks are note listed on the voting page. I know I can add them, but there is no real point voting if it won’t poll.
So, here are my Top 4 albums & Top 40 songs of 2014.

I have added the predictions from the @socialhottest on twitter next to each of my votes using [x]. Actual votes will be updated using {x}.

Vinyl, My New Obsession

It has been way too long since I last posted on here! Almost a year!!

Over the last few months I have started to really get into Vinyl. I have always owned a couple of LP’s, I’ve just never had the means to play them. So a few months ago I decided to dust of Dad’s old NAD 5120 & give it a whirl. At first it wasn’t working 100%. I thought it was the turntable. So I jumped on eBay and found an exact same model for a cheap as price & snapped it up! After setting it all up, it was actually the amplifier that was the issue & not the turntable. All I needed was to get a Phono Pre-Amp from JayCar & I was all set.

After getting some extra bits & pieces, including a long ass RCA cable to sit the turntable where I wanted, it was working perfectly! The only thing I have to do is switch the audio source on the amplifier. My first spin was The Living End’s “The Ending Is Just The Beginning Repeating”. I’ve had this LP for as long as the record has been released. I even managed to get it signed by the TLE boys at the Retrospective Tour back in 2012. Since I started, I have slowly been building a collection, that currently consists of the following (in order of purchase):

I have found myself searching for vinyl instead of CD’s of late. CD’s just get ripped to my computer & never get used again. There is just something about vinyl that I am finding enjoyment in. It’s about the album art, the design of the disc itself. Much like the how Kingswood’s debut album, Microscopic Wars is this wicked Black & Red translucent splatter! (Original photo on @kingswoodfans instagram, posted by myself). I just feel more “part of the music” so to speak. Other Vinyl nerds would say the same thing. I also managed to get my Ed Sheeran X (Multiply) signed by the man himself when I met him!

I guess my collection will continue to grow, and I am perfectly okay with that!

sydney and foo fighters acoustic (fuck the page)

Recently my girlfriend Tegan and I went on a trip to sydney. the main reason we went was to go to see the Foo Fighters play an acoustic concert at the Sydney Opera House. It was meant to be a complete suprise and just rock up at the concert, but i couldnt resist and i told her a few weeks before we left.

We left for sydney on a very early flight, 6:00am to be exact, and it left from avalon too. Crazy i know but it was cheap. We arrived just after 7, went to the hotel and checked our bags in. Checkin wasnt until 2pm so we bummed around in the city for a while. We saw Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

That movie is pretty funny, anybody who saw Anchorman will love this movie. Its based on this guy called Ricky Bobby and his life in Nascar Racing. Starting out as a kid “Wanting to go Fast” then his rise and fall as a famous driver. I wont say to much more all ill say is just go see it.

We checked in after lunch, unpacked and then jumped in a well earned spa. we had been walking around all damn day. we got in an early night and got up at about 9 for our buffet breakfast. Full of bacon, eggs, sausages, toast, cereals, fruits, hash browns . . . and much more! Its awsome coz u fill up on breakfast, dont have much for lunch and then a small dinner. If you have the option for a buffet breakfast in a hotel, take it, it saves you money!

After breakfast we took a cab down to darling harbour and strolled around for a while. We decided to go to the National Maratime Museum. Went on the HMAS Vampire and HMAS Onslow, went thru the museum inside and then took a tour on the Endevour II, the replica of Captain Cooks Endevour. Its pretty awsome to see how it was in the ol day.

It was getting close to concert time so we went back to the hotel got changed and went back to darling harbour to get a water taxi ride around to the Opera House. We got there pretty early so we went to a resturaunt and got some dinner.

It was concert time, we walked into the concert hall and omg its fkin amazing, its huge. Massive celing, huge ass pipe organ at the back and just all round architechual beauty. I tried to take photos but I havn’t figured out how to take dencent night shots yet. They are pretty blurry but you get the point.

The concert was awsome, if you have ever been to a foo fighters concert you know they are awsome live. Well this is even better, coz it was acoustic and the natural acoustics of the opera house meant we could hear every single word dave said to the crowd. It was mad, made it reall personal, introducing songs, telling stories of his old skool days wid nirvana and the guy is a comedian too, when we wernt tappin our feet to the music i was laughin my head off.

Comments like Fuck The Page, when he was talkin about how music comes from the heart, the soul, not from music books. Definatly a must do concert if they do it again. and ofcourse as every other concert i go to, a tour t-shirt and somtin i aint bought at other concerts, a poster. Its hand screen printed on parchment paper, limited edition of 350, pretty awsome

The rest of our trip consisted of the usual touristy shit, like the tower, aquarium general sight seeing and we also went on a turbo charged adventure on a Jet Boat. This thing is awsome. Its powered by two twin-turbo disel engines each peaking at 406hp, thats a staggering 812hp, it can pump water at the rate of 500L/sec, 270degree turns and power breaking stops. It was the best thrill ride, a definate must if you have a chance to do it.

Well that just about tops off the trip, theres plenty of other things i could go on about but ive probably bored you enough!

oh ive updated the collection pages if u wanna have a squiz, mainly the tv series page.
